This article addresses the figure of the public service, protagonist of a long history, which has diluted its meaning, adapting it to the needs of each historical moment. The new economic circumstances (globalization of economic activity), policies (strengthening of supra-state entities such as the European Union) and the reform of the State, have had two types of consequences in countries where the figure of public services prevails: on the one hand, there is a reorganization of the forms of management of public services; on the other, privatization and deregulation are also introduced in this area, although with certain particularities, which are examined in detail in this article.
